Contraception
Contraception counseling that actually covers your options.
Not a quick recommendation based on what's easiest to prescribe. A real conversation about how each method works, what it feels like to use it, and what fits your body, your life, and your goals right now.
Most birth control conversations last less than five minutes.
You get a recommendation, maybe a brief rundown of side effects, and a prescription. What you often don't get is a thorough discussion of how different methods affect your hormones, your cycle, your mood, or your libido. Or an honest conversation about what happens if a method doesn't work for you.
At Good Energy, contraception counseling is unhurried. We cover all methods, hormonal and non-hormonal, short-term and long-acting, with honest guidance and no pressure toward any particular choice.
The right method is the one that works for your body and your life. We're here to help you figure out which one that is.

IUD and implant placement, with pain management included.
Placement and removal of hormonal and copper IUDs and contraceptive implants happen right here in Batavia with nitrous oxide available at no added cost. We take comfort seriously and talk through exactly what to expect before we begin.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know which contraceptive method is right for me?
There's no single right answer. The best method depends on your health history, how important pregnancy prevention is right now, whether you want hormonal or non-hormonal options, how you feel about daily versus long-acting methods, and your future fertility plans. That's exactly what your contraception visit is for: a thorough, unhurried conversation that helps you make a decision you feel confident about.
Do you place IUDs and implants in-office?
Yes. We offer in-office placement and removal of both hormonal and copper IUDs and contraceptive implants. Pain management is included in every procedure. We take comfort seriously and will talk through what to expect before we begin.
I've had a bad experience with hormonal birth control before. What are my options?
That history matters and we want to hear about it. There are effective non-hormonal options, including the copper IUD and fertility awareness-based methods, and there are also hormonal methods with very different hormone profiles that may feel quite different from what you've tried before. We'll work through your history and find an approach that feels right.
Can hormonal contraception affect my mood?
For some people, yes. The relationship between hormonal contraception and mood is real and underacknowledged in standard care. We take this seriously and factor it into our recommendations. If you're experiencing mood changes on a current method, that's worth discussing rather than dismissing.
I want to stop my birth control because we're thinking about trying to conceive. What should I know?
Great timing for a preconception visit. We'll talk through what to expect as your cycle returns, what factors might affect your fertility in the short term, and how to set yourself up well for conception. The transition off contraception is a meaningful clinical moment and worth doing thoughtfully.
Do you prescribe emergency contraception?
Yes. We provide counseling on emergency contraception options and can prescribe when indicated. We can also discuss the copper IUD as the most effective form of emergency contraception if that's appropriate for your situation.
